35-year-old Jawon Garrison has made history in the sport by breaking Jesse Norris’s decade-long total world record of 914kg/2015.03lbs, which had stood since 2014. Weighing in at 89.4kg/197.0933lbs, Jawon Garrison totalled an unprecedented world record of 915kg/2017.23lbs at the USAPL Ghost Summer Slam 2, surpassing Jesse Norris’s record by 1kg/2.20lbs.
In the previous year, at the USAPL 7th Annual Capital City Barbell Championships, Jawon was disqualified while competing in the 90-93kg weight class. At the meet, he only managed to squat 150kg/330.69lbs, a steep decline of -123.33% from his competition best squat of 335kg/738.55lbs achieved at the 2022 USPA Drug Tested Pro American Cup.
Jawon’s world record total of 915kg/2017.23lbs includes a world record squat of 355kg/782.64lbs, surpassing Jesse’s former world record squat of 340.2kg/750.01lbs by 14.8kg/32.63lbs (4.35%). Additionally, he achieved a competition best bench of 235kg/518.09lbs and matched his competition best deadlift of 325kg/716.50lbs.
Before breaking the record as a 90-93kg athlete, Jawon's previous personal record total stood at 880kg/1940.07lbs, which he achieved at the 2022 USPA Drug Tested Pro American Cup.
